Kalamos is an island in the Ionian Sea that is located southeast (SE) of Lefkada, between Meganissi in the west northwest (NW), Kastos in the south southeast (SE) and the coast of Akarnania in the north northeast (NE).

The area is mountainous, with a mountain running its entire length. The island’s coastline is rocky and mostly without harbours.
Also, Kalamos has two relatively large bays:

A. A. Gerolimionas, in their north-western part,
B. Porto Leone harbour, in their north-eastern part.

Why choose Kalamos?

Kalamos is the ideal destination if you are looking for the real and traditional Greek atmosphere and lifestyle. The coast is covered by numerous coves, most of them covered with pebbles and often accessible only by sea.

The coastline has many plants (mainly pine trees) which in the northern part of the island grow almost vertically reaching very close to the sea. In addition, it has small beaches, mostly covered with pebbles, with crystal clear waters that in most cases are accessible only from the sea.

Near the port there are the beaches of Myrtia and Asproviali, while in the southern part there are the beaches of Agriapidia and Pefki. On the western side you will find Kefali, Cedros, Alexaki, Kipi and Trachilos. In Kalamos you will find the main and necessary services such as supermarkets, taverns, some bars and a souvenir shop.

Unfortunately there are no hotels on this island. If you want to stay overnight the only options are renting an apartment/bed and breakfrast or enjoying your stay in one of our luxury saling yachts and catamarans.

The island and its villages are very quiet also thanks to the fact that there are no cars or vehicles on the island, as the boats that travel here cannot carry tourists’ cars. Kalamos with Kastos is a rare example of an absolutely untouched and perfect Greek landscape.

What are the sightseeing options in Kalamos?

You can walk from Kalamos to Episkopi through an untouched, authentic landscape and redefine the values of life. You can visit by bike the southern end of the island, the abandoned settlement of Kefali. There old mills, stone threshing floors, crumbling houses, half-ruined windmills still standing, as if time had suddenly stopped, silent witnesses of a bygone era. You can also wander through the narrow streets, talk to the locals about the old times and life on the island. But make sure to visit the top beaches in Kalamos:

  • Agrapidia Beach
  • Myrtia Beach
  • Asprogiali Beach
